If 2025 hasn’t been chaotic enough, Mercury retrograde is back (right on the heels of the Buck Moon) to shake things up even more. If you feel like Mercury was just in retrograde, you’re not wrong (the last one ended in March), but the astrological event is happening all over again this month. Thankfully, Mercury retrograde is never as crazy as the internet makes it out to be. After all, it happens 3-4 times a year, and we get through it every single time. Sure, our technology might go awry and our communication might be a little off, but if we’re willing to slow down and be extra mindful, it’s possible that Mercury retrograde can be a total breeze. With that in mind, each retrograde will impact a few signs more than others, so here are the ones that will be most impacted this time around:

When is Mercury in retrograde?
Mercury goes into retrograde on July 18, 2025, and goes direct (AKA… not retrograde) on August 11, 2025. However, as with any retrograde period, there are “shadow” periods that exist before and after the official retrograde. Things might still go astrologically awry then, too. The full shadow period of Mercury’s retrograde started on June 30. So, perhaps a better question is: When isn’t Mercury in retrograde?
What is the impact of Mercury retrograde?
Mercury always rules communication, so with the amount of retrogrades we experience, I probably don’t need to tell you to watch out for communication issues. Double-check who you’re sending texts to, do a read-through of that email to your boss, and try to explain yourself clearly. This retrograde, in particular, with Venus in Gemini, may also have your ex-situationship trying to slide back into your messages. Uranus is also moving into Gemini after 84 years, and Neptune and Saturn are also retrograding in Aries.
All of these astrological events happening in tandem, especially with the retrograde in Leo, mean that life may feel very dramatic for the next month. “Some may feel like they are being too loud or taking up too much space—or the opposite, feeling small or unnoticed—since Mercury in Leo is all about how we think society sees us,” Iva Naskova, a psychic at Nebula, a spiritual guidance platform, said. “So, it’s very important to take a step back, slow down, and triple-check decisions, conclusions, and self-evaluations.”
What signs will be most impacted by Mercury retrograde?
Gemini
Geminis’ minds and mouths usually move a mile a minute, but during this period, they need to try their best to slow down. Slowing down isn’t in their nature, so it might be a tough period, with Uranus also pushing them into a bit of an identity crisis. You may find yourself questioning who you are, what you’re doing, and, as the Gen Z-ers on TikTok say, crashing out more than usual. However, Naskova has no doubt that Geminis will be able to come out on the other side of the retrograde relatively unscathed.
Leo
Since the retrograde is in Leo, they’re likely also to feel its effects more than most zodiac signs. As tempted as you may be to make a dramatic change like quitting your job or packing up and moving, now is not the time. It may be difficult for you, but try your best to rein in the dramatics. If you let yourself get too fired up at this time, every little interaction will seem far more intense and complicated than it actually is. Naskova put it best: “Chill—it’s just the retrograde.”
Aries
Unfortunately for you, Aries, it’s almost certain a past flame will try to worm their way back into your life. It may seem harmless to flirt back, but think twice before sending that cheeky text. Saturn and Neptune are retrograding in your sign, so you may not be thinking clearly. You may look back on your relationship and think “it wasn’t all bad” and hand out second chances left and right, but when the retrograde ends, your rose-colored glasses will be ripped off, and you will see all of their red flags clearly. So remember this isn’t the universe telling you to get back together, it’s Mercury tempting you, and you need to resist!
